ARDF Demo held on May 23rd, 2010

At 10.00 am on a bright Saturday morning, an ARDF demonstration was held at the field off Jalan Berjaya, Penang. Two fox beacons were deployed feeding into a vertically polarised duckie antenna and a horizontally polarised turnstile omni-directional antenna.

Purpose was to introduce to newcomers to the radio sports. Many had never seen the performance of the directivity of the ARDF yagi antenna which was homebrewed from filmsy measuring tape!

The additional homebrewed active attenuator was incorporated to the yagi antenna to enhance the sniffing capability of the antenna to locate the beacons.

The next event will probably be the homebrewing of ARDF yagi antenna for those
who wants to participate in the future hunts and had not build or owned the antennas.

An amateur radio field day and picnic, will be held on Saturday July 17th,
at the rest stop on top of  Relau-Balik Pulau road. — More details will be published soon.

At this function, we will be operating on the HF bands using makeshift setups.
A mini-fox hunt (on foot) will be carried out nearby giving an opportunity to the
hunters to test their sniffing skills.

So meanwhile keep that date open and get prepared for the event.
